WASU Okays Suspension Of ASUU Strike
The Wakirike Students Union (WASU), has described the suspension of the two-month strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as a welcomed development.
The union in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Jeremiah Boma and the Secretary, Comrade Inuma Brown said the suspension would give the students the opportunity once more to focus on their academic works and graduate as at when due.
The body applauded ASUU for its bold step in suspending the strike in the interest of the entire students and appealed passionately that they should not embark on such action at least for the next five years to enable students achieve their goals, adding that they should always dialogue with the educational authorities on their demand and resolve them amicably.
The statement also welcomed the fresh and returning students back to the campuses and urged them to take their studies seriously, while encouraging them to attend their union meetings in their various chapters and abstain from acts capable of tarnishing the good image of WASU and Kirike-Bese at large.
It however enjoined them not to be distracted by the delay in the bursary payment scheme by the Chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Barr. Tamuno Williams as modalities were being put in place to ensure payment.
