Transporter Hails Police Road Blocks Removal
As reactions trail the recent order by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mahammed Abubakar on the dismantling of all police road blocks across the country, a stakeholder in road transport business, Mr. Jide Fashakin said the order is a welcomed development, but an alternative measure should be put in place to curb armed robbery and other related crimes on the road.
Mr. Fashakin says should without delay introduce proper stop and search as well as use serviceable petrol vehicles to petrol the areas, adding that such vehicles should move from place to place and report to the nearest police station if there is any problem.
He noted that the idea to dismantle the road blocks is long overdue, because they are only used to extort money from road users especially commercial drivers.
The transporter called on the Acting Inspector General of police to have a monitoring unit of officers on mufty to ensure that the order is being carried out to the latter, while any officers found flouting the order were made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Let there be an enforcement on this order and all ranks and file of the police force to Co-operate and obey the Acting Inspector General’s order,” he said, stressing that they should carry out the orde4r without fear, sentiment or favour with men on such duties reporting to the nearest police station hour by hour.
Mr. Fashakin also enjoined the drivers to see the development as a move to sanitise the roads for a free flow of traffic, adding that they should obey all traffic regulations for a better society.
