Amaechi, Education Commissioner Receive Spellbound African Awards
The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has bagged the Super Dad 2011 award for his numerous contribution in education.
The award, which was given by an educational organisation, Spellbound Africa, was in recognition of the huge investment the governor has made in the education sector in the state.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi, said the governor has raised the standard of education in the state.
She noted that Rivers State is now a model for other states to follow.
The Education Commissioner, while receiving a medal for her own contribution pledged to continue to work hard so as to achieve the vision of the State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
According to her, the ministry of education would organise a spelling competition in collaboration with the Spellbound Africa.
The competition she announced, would be for children between he ages of 10 and 15 saying that the essence would be to imbibe in the pupils and students, the habit of reading.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Spellbound Africa, Mr. Ifeanyi Ogbum, decorating the commissioner with a medal for her contributions in implementing the government policy of delivering free and quality education to Rivers children.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
