… Releases N27m To Secondary School Principals
The Rivers State Government has released over N27million for the payment of the annual outstanding imprest to 236 secondary school principals and 23 zonal directors.
The Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi announced this to newsmen in her office in Port Harcourt.
Dame Lawrence-Nemi said the funds would reduce the huge financial burdens on the school principals.
She however charged them to continue to discharge their duties diligently so as to bring out the best in the students.
The Education Commissioner noted that the gesture was in line with the vision at the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in the area of providing free and compulsory education to Rivers people.
She recalled that on 1st of October 2010, at the Independence celebration at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, the governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi declared free education in Rivers State.
The essence she said is for all Rivers people to have access to education because education is the key to national development.
The Commissioner also confirmed the release of funds for the fees of Rivers State students in Law Schools across the country.
She stated that the Ministry has also released funds for the conduct of staff promotion, upgrading and conversion for the teaching and non-teaching staff of the post-primary schools board, funds for the monthly supervision of school’s by the board headquarters were also released by the ministry of education.
Some secondary school principals have lauded the effort of the Rivers State government by releasing funds for t heir annual imprest.
Those who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were inspired by the gesture of the state government.
They, however, pledged to continue to discharge their duties effectively in order to complement government’s effort in providing quality education to the students.
