Commissioner Threatens To Demote Principals, If…
Principals in public secondary schools in Delta, have been warned to stay in their stations or risk demotion to classroom, according to a statement from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The statement was issued in Asaba on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer in the ministry, Mr Dennis Medi.
It admonished the principals to shun illegal collection of levies, admission of unqualified students and over-admission of students beyond what the facilities in the school could cope with.
It said that the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, gave the warning at a meeting with the Permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board and the principals.
According to the statement, Muoboghare also charged the principals to take full control of their schools, warning that they will be held accountable for any anomaly.
He, however, advised them to desist from lobbying for appointments and postings, stressing that they were based on seniority.
“The new structure and system of doing things were introduced as correction for anomalies associated with previous postings whereby many senior teachers were either left out or made to work under their juniors,” the statement added.
