FRSC Warn Officials Against Extortion
The Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Alhaji Ringim Abdullahi, has warned officials of the commission against exortion, saying any one caught will be dealt with decisively.
Ringim, who is in charge of Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states, said that the officials were expected to only guide motorists to ensure safer roads and not to demand for gratification.
The commander was speaking in Ilorin, recently at a sensitisation programme meant to enhance cordial relationship between drivers and the road marshals.
He said that it was necessary for them to work in harmony, so as to reduce accidents on the road.
“No officer caught in the act will go scot free. The FRSC is not established to punish commuters, but to regulate and advice them on the need for safe driving.
“I urge dialogue between the FRSC and commuters and I warn that no road marshal should collect bribe from any driver,” he said.
Ringim advised drivers against over speeding, recklessness and night journey, adding that they must always respect driving laws to ensure safety on the roads.
“Failure to wear seat belt, coupled with lack of concentration can lead to accidents.
“Small reaction can cause the death of many people, like the pilot who mans his planes, a driver must be psychologically, emotionally and physically fit to man his vehicle
“The best driver is the one who arrives safely at his destination in one piece,” he said.
