Oyo Declares Emergency In Education Sector
The Oyo State Government has declared a state of emergency in the education sector with the introduction of compulsory extension and after – school classes.
The government announced this at a meeting with school heads and other stakeholders in the sector on the need to restore the system in Ibadan, on Sunday.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Adetokunbo Fayokun, who represented Governor Abiola Ajimobi at the meeting, decried the decline in the system.
Fayokun said the development was worrisome and stressed the need for all stakeholders to come together to fashion out ways of addressing the decline and restoring the system.
She said that henceforth, there would be uniformity in the scheme of work across the state as well as compulsory extension and after-school classes.
According to her, the compulsory extension classes would commence in November for students in Senior Secondary School (SSS) III so as to prepare them for mock examinations.
Fayokun further said that the compulsory extension and after-school classes would be strictly monitored by an independent task force to ensure compliance.
She appealed to parents to cooperate with the state government by releasing their children for the programme.
Fayokun assured teachers in the state of a conducive working environment and good welfare package.
