FRSC Records 268 Deaths In Three States
The Zone 5 Command of the FRSC says 268 persons lost their lives in road accidents between July and September in Edo, Delta and Anambra States.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr Yakubu Attah, who made the announcement in Asaba at an event to mark this year’s Road Safety Day, said the FRSC was currently partnering with some agencies, such as the Rotary Club, Benin; the Chaplain Corps, Delta; and other stakeholders in Anambra in the efforts to reduce the rate of accidets on the roads in the zone.
He said that the major partner in the campaign was the Nigeria Police, noting that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in the zone, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba-Audu, had given the FRSC a tow truck to help in removing break-down vehicles from the highway during the yuletide.
Attah said a road monitoring team had also been set up as part of efforts to ensure a free flow of traffic during the yuletide.
Sector Commander of the FRSC in Delta, Mr Luka Ikpi decried the high rate of road accidents in the country, saying Nigeria was currently the 191st out of the 192 countries of the world with un-safest roads.
He said that between January and November, more than 3,364 deaths were recorded on Nigerian roads.
