MTN To Strengthen Cultural Dev In Nigeria
As part of its community relation policy to promote a cordial relationship with its communities MTN communication, a leading mobile communication service provider in the country says it will continue to strengthen the various cultural heritage of Nigerians geared towards the development of the society.
The Regional marketing manager, MTN South-South, Mr. Kester Osahenya stated this at the grand Finale of the 2011 “Igwaji Aggah Festival” sponsored by the company at Aggah in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, last weekend.
Mr. Kester disclosed that the company has been sponsoring cultural festivals across the country adding that the Igwaji Aggah is one of such festivals sponsored by MTN.
According to him, the idea of sponsoring such festivals is to tell the entire world that Nigeria is safe and peaceful for investment of any kind and that Nigeria remains the largest in the entire black race.
In his words’ we are telling the world that we are not known only for what the world wants to know. We are known for the best which is culture, Tourism, hospitality and every thing which the world wants to know about Africa” he stated.
The Manager averred that it was for the same the reason that the company decided to promote cultural tourism through the sponsorship of community festival and used the opportunity to thank the people of Aggah community for their favourable disposition to the company and assured that the company would not relent in its effort to promote a peaceful working relationship with all its host communities across the country.
Earlier in his speech at the occasion, the chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Hon Raymond Nwokocha commended the people of Aggah community for their resilience to uphold their cultural heritage adding that such measures will go along way in promoting a moral consciousness among the people.
The Onelga boss thanked MTN for the sponsorship of the festival and called on other multi-national companies operating in the area to emulate its community relation policy in other to enhance the betterment of their host communities.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Aggah community, His Royal Highness, Eze Oli Ignatius Ekezie disclosed that the festival is celebrated annually to mark the end of every planting season as well as the commencement of the harvest.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
