Fed Cup: Heartlands Performance, Victory Excite Okorocha
Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the 2011 Federation Cup champions, heartland FC of Owerri.
Governor bared his mind shortly after the Federation Cup final match decided Sunday between the Oriental Brothers, Enyimba F.C. of Aba and Heartland F.C. of Owerri at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
According to Okorocha, the players played to impress him and expressed joy over the gesture. He promised to make the Players happy over their achievement. “ They have thrown the ball to my court, it is now my turn to play back, I want them to know that they would be happy that they are footballers” he said. He continued that what the team exhibited in the cup final was a tip of the ice berg, promising that the team would show the world that football has come back to stay in Owerri, Imo State.
The Government maintained that it was a challenge to all well meaning individuals and corporate bodies in the state to support the team to greater heights.
What this boys need is our support, we need to encourage them as they move to excel in their chosen carreer and to show case their skills and experience to the world, he said.
Earlier, the Lagos State governor Baba Tunde Fashola, has congratulated the 2011 Federation Cup winners for their excellent performance. Governor Fashola, said that he was happy that Lagos State was choosen as the destination for an interesting and a memorable match such as the game displayed between the oriental brothers, which he described as being keenly contested by the duo.
“I am very happy to receive the fans and players at a time like this, having being entertained to this level. We watched the best of football from the best two teams in Nigeria,” I must say that we want more of this,” he remarked.
