RVHA Speaker Tasks Lecturers On Corruption
The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Otelemaba Amachree has condemned the high level of corruption among lecturers of Nigerian University.
Rt Hon. Amachree made the condemnation in his goodwill message to the 44th Annual conference of the Nigeria Association of Law Teachers held at the New High Court Complex, Port Harcourt last Monday.
The speaker noted the importance’s of the law teachers in the development of human resources especially in the areas of adjudication of laws in the society adding that it would be dangerous of those entrusted with the responsibilities of teaching students engaged themselves in corruption.
Represented on the occasion by the deputy speaker, Hon Leyikwane the speaker urged the association to ensure that those corrupt lecturers are disciplined and shown the way out of the profession.
He described the theme of the conference “Law, Peace and Development” as very apt as it was coming at a period when the nation was being ravaged with various security challenges that are detrimental to the development of the country.
He stated that no peaceful development can thrive in an atmospher devoid of Peace and order, adding that all hands must be on deck in the fight against insecurity in the society.
The Speaker announced that the state House of Assembly is been re-enginered by the present House leadership with a view to ensure that dividends of democracy are attracted to the people.
He urged members of the association to rise up to the challenges towards enhancing the quality of education in the country even as he called on them to use the opportunity provided by the conference to make suggestions that would help the government to achieve peace and development in the country.
Also speaking, the president, customary court of Appeal, Rivers State, Justice P.N.C. Agumagu noted no development can be achieved in a society without peace.
