Residents Lament Bad Roads In Obio-Akpor LGA
Residents of Ogbogoro Elioparamwo and some parts of Rumuolumeni communities in Obio Akpor Local Government area of Rivers State have been cut off from other communities following the deplorable condition of roads in the area.
The residents noted that the economic live have been affected as commercial vehicles refuse to ply the roads licking Rumuolumeni, Ogbogoro, Ozuoba and Elioparamwo.
According to the residents they now pay more than double the normal fare to the destinations, adding that the difference in fares have increased to about 200 percent a situation which has made life difficult for them.
They are therefore calling on the government to come to their aid and regretted that previous complaints to the appropriate authorities have not yielded result.
Some transporters who spoke to The Tide on the matter say they are now regular customers to Auto-mechanic shops due to damages on their vehicles caused by the bad roads.
The Cmmunity Development Committee (CDC) chairman of Elioparcruwo, Godspower Onunga expressed displeasure over the neglect of the roads, noting that nothing has been done to alleviate the suffering of the people in the community, while his counterpart in Egbelu Ozodo community in Ogbogoro, Mr. Paul Amadi lamented the poor state of roads and called for urgent action to solve the problem.
Mr. Amadi expressed surprise that the contractors are yet to mobilize to the site after Governor Rotimi Amaechi awarded the contract last December.
