NIPOST Reforms To Satisfy Postal Bill
The post-master general of the Nigerian Postal Services, (NIPOST), Mallam Ibrahim Moribaba has said that his organisation has embarked on a reform programme in line with the postal policy bill currently before the National Assembly.
Mallam Moribaba who was speaking during the 2010 awards ceremony of the South-South territories of NIPOST in Port Harcourt said the postal bill has gone through first and second reading at the House of Representatives while the sector bill was awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The post-master general who was represented by the deputy postmaster general, operations, Mr Edward Emordia further explained that the introduction of the awards by the management was to raise the morale of the average staff of NIPOST.
Speaking earlier, the area postal manager, Rivers territory, Mr Austin Ebodili explained that the annual event had afforded staff the opportunity to strive in distinguishing themselves in the discharge of their duties.
He added that the awards where earned through dedication and remarkable performance of staff who in addition to their normal promotions where rewarded handsomely at the end of their service with the organsiation.
The awardees included Mr Olajide Ajire who emerged as most outstanding officer, Akpan Okokon, best postman, Boniface Inegbairie, best counter officer, Isele Patrick, best security guard, Oniawa Lawrence, but driver and Barr. Mansirat Abdulraheed as first runner-up.
It could be recalled that the awards where introduced in 2002 with the desire of the management of NIPOST to raise the already low morale of the average hardworking staff then.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
