FG Donates 365 Laptops To Colleges
The Federal Government donated 365 laptop computers to eight junior secondary schools in Niger State.
Speaking at the presentation. a director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Malam Y.A. Yusuf, said the exercise was part of the MDGs ICT initiative.
He said the programme was to assist students in state and federal government-owned colleges to improve on their knowledge of ICT.
“The Federal Ministry of Education will not relent in her effort to develop the education sector”.
“These laptops of JSS girls in secondary school will open their eyes to the new world order and it will spread ICT knowledge in our society, he said”.
Yusuf commended the state government for also creating a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in schools.
Governor Babangida Aliyu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Daniel Shashere, said education had been accorded high priority by the administration.
He said the donation by the federal government would continue to impact positively on the girl-child.
Schools which benefited from the laptops included Federal Government Girls College, Bida, Federal Government College, New Bussa and Government Girls Secondary School, Minna.
Others are the Government Girls Colleges in Bida, Kontagora, Tunga Magajiya and Sabon Wuse as well as Government Girls Day Secondary School, Paiko.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
