Athletes Thrill Fans In University Of Port Harcourt Sports Venues
The Convocation Arena at the University of Port Harcourt Choba buzzed with
excitement as fans of boxing were treated to some thrilling action moments at the ongoing 17th National Sport Festival.
A number of wins were decided in different categories as spectators cheered their favourite boxers as they threw punches.
In some of the results, Masebinu Adewale of Ekiti state beat Aweda Aliu of Nasarawa by 15 points to six in the 75 kilogram category in the male event while Akanni Muideen of Rivers overwhelmed Nase Peter of Edo by 15 points to nothing.
In the 51 kg female contest, Ekufu Loveth of Rivers lost 5-16 toAdeniyi Fajoke of Ekiti.
Friday Osagie of Ogun also edged Yusuf Olalekan of Rivers 9-4 in the 49 kg men’s event.
In an interview with our correspondent, Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Boxing Federation, Mr. Adams pointed out that the standard was high, expressing hope that those discovered
at the Games if well groomed could win laurels for the country in international events.
