Emir Advises Farmers On Grains Preservation
The Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa, has advised farmers against hasty sale produce at harvest and urged them to imbibe grain preservation culture.
The emir gave the advice at a voter enlightenment and advocacy campaign in Mubi on Wednesday.
It will be recalled farmers in the area recorded bumper harvest last year contrary to the drought alarm raised by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET).
Isa warned farmers not to sell all of their produce at harvest to guard against exposing their families to hunger and starvation.
“We recorded bumper harvest this season. I call on you not sale all of your crop; it is good to preserve some for your household.
“It is disheartening to see that farmers have nothing to eat few months after harvest,” Isa said and noted that the trend was making agriculture less attractive.
The emir warned against indiscriminate felling of trees and bush burning to protect and preserve the environment.
According to him, the Adamawa State Government has reviewed and delineated cattle route with a view to checking farmers/Fulani conflict.
On the ongoing voter registration, Isa urged farmers to turn out en masse and participate in the exercise.
Our correspondent reports that some of the main produce farmers sell include maize, sorghum, groundnut, beans and rice.

Ayo-Ajayi commended the Ogun State Government for partnering with the government at the centre for the effort in supporting farmers with inputs that would bring about yieldings for local consumption and likely exportation.
She noted that government is supporting rice, cassava and maize farmers with inputs worth N212,000; N189,000 and N186,000 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye, who represented the Commissioner in the Ministry, Bolu Owotomo, stated that traditional farmers are critical in food production, hence the need to encourage and support them with inputs that would bring about desired results during harvesting.
