Ogba Monarch Seeks Preservation Of Cultural Heritage
The foremost traditional ruler in Rivers State and Oba, Eze Ogba, of Ogbaland, Chukumela Nnam Obi II, has described culture as a veritable instrument for socio-economic development of the country, and called for its preservation at all levels.
Sir Nnam Obi II, who stated this, while addressing newsmen at this years annual Nchaka festival in Omoku recently, attributed the development of China and Japan to the exploitation of their cultural values.
The Ogba Monarch remarked that the Ncheaka festival was capable of attracting huge revenue for the state through cultural tourism. He pointed out that tourists from home and abroad would throng the area if the Nchaka festival was given the needed boost, and expressed optimism that it would lead to urban development.
The royal father stated that if the environmental problems of the area were addressed, the LGA as the highest oil producing area in the state and host of many oil exploiting companies could became the hub of social development in Rivers state.
Eze Nnam Obi II the former Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, said the Nchaka festival offered an ample opportunity for the people of the kingdom to rededicate themselves to the service of humanity.
He noted that the festival was aimed at ensuring the continuity of traditional skills and sports with a view to adapting them to serve modern needs.
