Rotary Club Restates Commitment To High Ethical Standard
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt District 9140 has restated its commitment to the promotion of high ethical standard in all professions in the society.
The President of the Club, Rotarian Georgiana Ngeri-Nwagha stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2010 Quiz Competition organised by the club for 10 secondary schools in Port Harcourt.
Rotarian Ngeri-Nwagha who said that the competition was part of event to mark the Rotary Service month said that October every year has been designated by the Rotary club world wide as a vocational service month.
“It is the month when we give emphasis to practical demonstration and utilisation of our various professions and vocations in the advancement of service to mankind”.
She also said that the month has provided opportunity for the club to reach out to younger generations through programmes aimed at inculcating in them the ideal of high ethical standard and the recognition of the worthiness of useful occupation.
According to her, the club has carried out career talks in four secondary schools in Port Harcourt.
Also speaking the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Mr. Richard Ofura thanked the club for the competition and charged the students to imbibe the culture of reading.
Represented by Mr. Samuel Egbe, Ofuru urged other clubs to emulate Rotary Club by identifying with the needs of the society.
At the end of the competition, Stella Maris College emerged first, followed by Community Secondary School Ruuourushi, while Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta came third.
