Students Laud Amaechi’s Free Education Policy
Students under the auspices, National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), has lauded Governor Chibuike Amaechi on his free education policy in the state, describing it as a welcomed development.
The Union in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Godpower Chioma Egbule, noted that the policy would give the less privileged the opportunity to acquire quality education.
Comrade Egbule, noted that the newly built schools by the Rivers State Government were fully equipped with computers and other materials to enhance learning and train students compete favourably with private schools.
The students’ leader lauded Governor Amaechi over the award of scholarship to students in tertiary institutions and payment of students’ bursary, but called for increase on the bursary in order to help the students contend with the ever increasing economic challenges.
He also adviced all students above 18 years to avail themselves the opportunity to register in the forthcoming voters’ registration exercise, and as well, voting and monitoring their votes in 2011 general election.
Meanwhile, they have condemned in its totality the October 1, bomb blast in the federal capital, describing it as a shame and act of terrorism, as they task the security agents to ensure that the suspect’s were properly prosecuted.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
