Participants Hail Nigeria At 50 Essay Competition
South-South participants at the ongoing nationwide Nigeria at 50 Essay Competition have described the initiative as “lofty and noble”.
Some of the students, who spoke to newsmen last Saturday at the Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, the venue for South-South, said the competition had been a source of inspiration to them.
They urged the Federal Government to embark on more programmes that would make the youth feel involved in the scheme of things.
A total of 18 students drawn from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers State sat for the regional edition after scaling through the exercise in their states.
Speaking to newsmen, the representative of the Sub-Committee on Image and Public Awareness for the Nigeria at 50 Project, Stellamaris Oparaugo, said the essence of the competition was to make the youth part of the celebration.
She said the essay with the topic: “What I would like to do for my country to make her great amongst nations if I were the President”, was more appropriate, especially with the zeal of the current administration to get things right.
