NGO Advocates Staff, Volunteers Capacity Building
The Youth Organisation for Health and Development (YOHaD), a non-governmental Organisation, has sounded the urgent need to build the capacity of staff and volunteers of non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) for effective service delivery.
The Executive Director of the Organisation, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Worgu indicated the urgency at a 3-day Workshop on Behaviour Change Communication and Capacity assessment, documentation and sustainability strategies, organised by YOHaD for its staff and volunteers which ended last Friday in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Worgu noted the need to build the capacity of staff and volunteers, particularly in the present interventions on behaviour change, maintenance in the areas of health and youth development and HIV/AIDs prevention which has Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) as its tool.
“Considering our new projects and initiatives (pre-tertiary preparatory programme (P3 initiative) and organisational capacity assessment, there is need for shared understanding amongst the management, staff and volunteers of the organisation on organisation capacity assessment, project design, execution, management and supervision”, he said.
He said the phasing down of the comprehensive integrated approach to HIV/AIDs prevention project accounted for the workshop which was a stepped down training of a 4-day workshop organized by society for Family Health (SFH) Nigeria.
Mr. Worgu said the workshop participants are expected to demonstrate practical knowledge in institutional structure of Community Based Organisations (CBOs), proposal development, report writing, organisation capacity assessment and sustainability strategies.
Participants were drawn from the organisations, the media and other collaborating agencies.
