RSG To Tackle Criminality Along Rivers/Abia Border
Irked by the rising spate of armed robbery, killing and kidnappings along the border between Rivers and Abia State, the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has declared his administration’s determination to check the trend.
Governor Amaechi spoke on Sunday during the thanksgiving service and birthday celebration in honour of the paramount ruler of Umuihueze Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Sylvernus Nwaeke and father of the State Commissioner of Youths Development, Mr. Felix Nwaeke, at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ukwa Diocese, Obeakpu-Ndoki in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, who was accompanied by his wife, Mina, Governor Amaechi decried the prevalence of criminal activities in the area, assuring that government would take proactive measures to tackle the ugly situation.
He further charged the people of the area to warn their children to desist from criminal tendencies, reminding the congregation to utilise the emergency telephone number, 112, recently introduced by the State Government to alert security agents in case of crime, saying it should be utilised free of charge and from any telephone network in the country by the citizens in times of distress.
Describing the celebrant as a man of integrity, worthy of emulation, the State Chief Executive noted that ‘clear hands, pure heart and upright living” remain the secrets of longevity, commending him for the proper upbringing of the Commissioner for Youth, who he described as “sincere, honest and forthright”.
