RSG To Tackle Criminality Along Rivers/Abia Border
Irked by the rising spate of armed robbery, killing and kidnappings along the border between Rivers and Abia State, the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has declared his administration’s determination to check the trend.
Governor Amaechi spoke on Sunday during the thanksgiving service and birthday celebration in honour of the paramount ruler of Umuihueze Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Sylvernus Nwaeke and father of the State Commissioner of Youths Development, Mr. Felix Nwaeke, at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ukwa Diocese, Obeakpu-Ndoki in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, who was accompanied by his wife, Mina, Governor Amaechi decried the prevalence of criminal activities in the area, assuring that government would take proactive measures to tackle the ugly situation.
He further charged the people of the area to warn their children to desist from criminal tendencies, reminding the congregation to utilise the emergency telephone number, 112, recently introduced by the State Government to alert security agents in case of crime, saying it should be utilised free of charge and from any telephone network in the country by the citizens in times of distress.
Describing the celebrant as a man of integrity, worthy of emulation, the State Chief Executive noted that ‘clear hands, pure heart and upright living” remain the secrets of longevity, commending him for the proper upbringing of the Commissioner for Youth, who he described as “sincere, honest and forthright”.
Earlier in his sermon titled, “Divine Visitation and Divine Grace”, the Vicar of the Church, Venerable David Ekwueme, called on the people to expect their own divine manifestation, explaining that ‘everyone has his own time of grace to be uplifted”.
Praying God to grant Eze Nwaeke more years and wisdom to rule his people, Venerable Ekwueme charged him to forgive the misdeeds of his people, love them and rule in the fear of God.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the former Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Dominic Anucha and his wife, who is also the State Head of Service, Esther Anucha, Commissioners for Justice, Barr. Ken Chikere, Urban Development, Mr. Osima Ginah, Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Dawari George, Housing, Hon. Marshal Uwom, Environment, Barr. Kingsley Chinda and Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari and the legislator representing Oyigbo Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Ihute.
Others are the Special Advisers to the Governor on Rural Development, Mr. Austin Nwakoh and Aquaculture and Deep Sea Fishing, Hon. Kurotamunoye Briggs, Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Chief Ephraim Etete-Owoh, the Gbenemene Tai, HRH King G.N.K. Gininwa, among others.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
