Jonathan Is On Right Path – Soyinka
Nobel Laureate and Activist, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Friday said Acting President Goodluck Jonathan was on the right track in the steering of the affairs of the country.
Soyinka said this after a closed door meeting with the Acting President at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking with State House correspondents, Soyinka specifically commended the stance of the acting president on the Electoral Reform and the Amnesty programme.
“We discussed electoral reform, which he is a very clear supporter. He is very keen a believer in it. I got very good vibrations from him,’’ Soyinka said.
Soyinka said that the meeting also discussed the amnesty programme, noting that there was the need to revitalise the programme.
“What was uppermost in my mind was what was happening in the oil producing region; the issue of the amnesty; the unfinished business and ill-executed amnesty programme, which is a brilliant idea.
“I find his approach acceptable and convincing,’’ he said.
Soyinka observed that the amnesty programme was a marvelous initiative, but “ill-organised, ill-thought out’’.
“Preparations were not made for it, preparations were not made to accommodate those coming out of the creeks, the militants. The mentality of the nation also was wrong,’’ he said.
