Ifoko Monarch Hails Kalabari Kingdom
Following the coronation of the Amayanabo of Fouchee Community, HRH, Chief Adolphus C. Blakk-Iwerima (Odome I), the Kalabari Kingdom has been commended for making truth a cardinal part of its operations.
The commendation was made by the Amadabo of Ifoko, HRH, Chief 1. G. Bereyin during the coronation of the Fouchee Monarch recently.· He said that the massive support given to Fouchee towards the coronation of the first Amayanabo of Fouchee has restored his confidence and hope in God and in the Kalabari nation.
“This coronation is a monumental landmarks because it brings to an end more than a century of the use of Regents and Chairmen as leaders. But more importantly, it ends an era of marginalisation, blackmail and the denial of the existence of Fouchee as a Community by some people”, he said.
Bereyin who suggested the observance of the coronation date annually, also congratulated the people of Fouchee for the choice of the person of the Amayanabo, whose service to the Ifoko people and Kalabari as a whole is noteworthy.
The coronation which was witnessed by Chiefs from all over Kalabari, Bukuma, Usokun and Bille Kingdoms presented a unique fusion of Odome, Kalabari and Christian traditions as the throne and crown were first. consecrated by a Minister of God.
Speaking earlier, the out-going Chairman of the Community, Alabo Charles Dokubo advised the King to take everybody on the Community along and open the way to dialogue towards the re-unification of Fouchee and the cordial relations with her neighbouring Community.
The new Amayanabo, HRH, Chief A. C. Blakk-Iwerima in his address attributed the coronation to the grace of God and the dedication of the Fouchee people. He pledged to work with the Chiefs and people of the Community with due regard to the Kalabari-culture and the constitution of the Community.
The occasion featured traditional displays including ceremonial canoe regatta and the legendary Seki masquerade for which the Ifoko people are known. The event was concluded with a thanksgiving service the following day.
