Amaechi Fulfils Electricity Promise
The nine communities that make up the Abua-Central urban area in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area, can now enjoy uninterrupted power supply at the instance of the Rivers State Government.
The promise for the project which was made by the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on the 29th of June this year, during his maiden visit to Abua/Odual Local Government Area was made good barely six months after.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Abua Central electrification project, yesterday Governor, Amaechi reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensure that all rural communities in the State are electrified within the life span of the present administration.
Governor Amaechi who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon.. Magnus Abe said that power is a key component of the policy thrust of this government and expressed appreciation to the people of Abua/Odual Local Government Area for embracing peace, saying that where there is no viable and lasting peace it would be impossible for government to carry out any meaningful project.
He used the occasion to charge the people of Abua/Odual to do everything within their power to sustain the present atmosphere of peaceful co-existence in the area.
Governor Amaechi who also expressed happiness that the Abua Central electrification project was delivered on schedule and according to specifications, directed the Power Commissioner, Mr. Augustine Wokocha to deliver one more transformer for the only community in Abua Central which was inadvertently left out of the project not later than next Monday to ensure they benefitted from the project.
The State Chief Executive promised that other communities outside Abua Central that were not part of the project would benefit from the on-going rural electrification project, which he assured, must touch every community in the State.
Governor Amaechi also used the occasion to call on political leaders across the State to close ranks, unite and work as a team for the progress of their communities.
He thanked the contractor for completing the project at record time, saying the era of abandoned projects was over for good in the State.
On the road situation in the State, Governor Amaechi assured that it was a major thrust in the policy position of government, stressing that the present administration was poised to change the face of rural communication through massive road construction that would touch all parts of the State.
He called on the people of Abua/Odual Local Government Area to sustain their support for his government, noting that he is prepared to do his best within the means of available resources for the people.
In his speech, the State Power commissioner, Mr. Augustine Wokocha expressed his Ministry’s happiness over the completion of the project without any hitch, saying that the cooperation and support provided by the people of Abua towards the success of the power project should be emulated by other communities across the State.
Mr. Wokocha enjoined the people to take advantage of the availability of power in the area to engage in meaningful business ventures that would improve their living standards, saying that the provision of electricity for the area is capable of engendering a stream of economic activities for the good of the people.
Earlier, the Oda-Abuan, King Kaleh O. M. Obuge and member representing Abua/Odual constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Ogiri in their separate speeches had expressed their gratitude to Governor Amaechi for fulfilling his promise to the people of Abua Central, which they described as a mark of responsible leadership and appealed that the electrification project and other development initiatives of the present administration be extended to communities in Emughan, Okpeden and Otapha,King Obuge and Hon. Ogiri assured the State Governor of the support of the people to his government and on the event that he decides to do a second tenure in office, stressing hat there is significant peace in Abua/Odual Local Government Area to attract meaningful government projects for the overall transformation of the area.
