VP Urges Obedience, Sacrifice To Allah
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Muslims in the country to let the obedience and sacrifice to the Almighty Allah be their watchword.
Vice President Jonathan made the call at Abuja Central Mosque yesterday during this year’s Eid el Kabir celebration.
He noted that the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac was the height of obedience to Allah on how to achieve greatness, adding that the gesture is being remembered by Muslims by the slaughtering of cows, sheeps and goats during festive periods.
The Vice President noted that the fact that about one third of the meat would be eaten by the family, while the remaining two thirds would be given to friends, well wishers and the poor symbolizes the actual willingness to give out things by the Muslims from their hearts in obedience to Allah’s command.
In his own message the Senate President, Mr David Mark urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtue of sacrifice, tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
Senator Mark also called on Nigerians to be guided by the holy teachings of Prophet Mohammed which among others preaches love, peace and unity.
He also reassured Nigerians of the Senate’s commitment to impact positively on the lives of the citizens, adding that the Senate would pass the 2010 budget soon and fast-track other bills in line with the delivery of dividends of democracy.
Earlier he said that the Senate would co-operate and collaborate with the positive guidelines at all levels.
