Hajj: Nigeria Won’t Seek Airlift Time Extension
The National Amiro Hajji Senator Kaute Bello Mohammed, has assured Nigerians that the country will not seek for extension of date from the Sandi Arabia authority to airlift its Muslims Pilgrims as plans have been completed to airlift all pilgrims ten days before the deadline. Senator Kaute Bello, who gave the assurance when he visited the hajji camp at the Port Harcourt International airport with his committee said for the first time, the country would not ask for an extension of time, but will conclude the exercise ten days ahead of the deadline given by the Saudi Avabian government to shut down their airports. Senator Kaute Bello, who is also the Chief Wip of the National Assembly said, out of the 83,000 pilgrims this year, only 800 pilgrims are left and would have been completed last Friday. He noted that the pilgrims yet to be airlifted consist of Port Harcourt zone which comprises of South-South states and South-East states with about 800 pilgrims. The Amiro hajji expressed happiness over the progress made in the exercise and appealed to the pilgrims of the various states to prepare and come out in time because the aircraft cannot afford to wait for them. According to him, we have already airlifted 83,000 pilgrims and about 800 remaining in this zone, so, I am appealing that they should come out so that we can complete the exercise on time ahead of the deadline. He assured that the country would not request for extension from the Saudi Arabian authority, as he noted that all the exercise is being done on the right way within the limit of the law. The deadline is on 21st November, but by 13th Nov. we must have completed the exercise. The Amiro hajji also cautioned the pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the state while in the holy land, enjoining them to remember that they were on spiritual journey and they should therefore distance themselves from any thing that would tarnish the image of the country. Senator Kaute Bello Mohammed with his team inspected various screening points at the hajji camp which was newly reconstructed by the state government.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
