NASU, SSANU Suspend strike In RSUST
At last, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU) have suspended their strike in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST.
Declaring the suspension of strike yesterday, the RSUST Chapter Chairman of NASU, Comrade Ebenezer Chuku told The Tide that the union decided to suspend the strike based on a directive from national headquarters of the union and the congress that met yesterday afternoon.
The NASU boss said by the suspension, all members of the union were expected to resume work Monday.
Reacting to this positive development, Deputy Registrar (Public Relations) of the university Mr Des I. Wosu said it is a welcome development that SSANU, NASU have decided to suspend the strike in RSUST and we hope that within the next two and three days, full academic activities will resume in the university.
Continuing, the PRO said “We thank God that the senate of the university met and in the soonest possible time, you will see the calendar of the remaining part of the year and latest Monday, they shall be back on duty, he said.
He explained that the senate will plan on how to meet with the lost period as a result of the strike which is nationwide and called on stake holders and FG to rise up to the occasion to ensure unviserte is are properly finded such that workers in the campus won’t have any cause to embark on strike any more.
The institutions image maker narrated that the university authority and the Rivers State Government do not have any problem with the institutions workers but that the strike is a national issue and commended the union for suspending the 4 month strike.
