Kenyan Football Faces New Crisis
Kenyan football could face another crisis after a new dispute over who runs the sport in the country broke out.
World governing body FIFA recognises Football Kenya Limited (FKL) but a rival faction, known as the Kenya Football Federation (KFF), is supported by the government.
A compromise was brokered earlier this year but that appears to have broken down in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next month.
FKL has been in charge of the Harambee Stars since the qualifiers started – but there are claims that the KFF has stepped in to try and organise the 14 November game in Nairobi.
Reports even suggest that KFF has started printing tickets for the game.
KFL vice-president Titus Kasuve insists that his group have the mandate from FIFA.
“Ignorance is no defence. This match is organised under the auspices of FIFA. KFL is the associated recognised and affiliated to FIFA” Kasuve told BBC Sport.
“Nobody else in this country can pretend to print tickets for [national team] matches or organise any national team.
“If you went to that other group and asked them – where are the match officials coming from? Where is the match commissioner coming from? Where will the match be played? They know nothing.
“They can’t even write to clubs to request for our foreign-players to be released for the game. Nobody recognises them. They are just big jokers.”
He also called on the country’s sports minister, Hellen Sambili, to stop interfering in football.
“It is high time the Minister gave us room to do out work.
“The Minister has a role to play [but] it is not her responsibility to decide who should run football in this country.”
Kenyan football has been plagued by woes in recent years and the suspension of the country in 2006 was its second in two years.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
