RSG Fulfills Promise On JAMB, WASSCE
In fulfilment of his promise, Governor Nyesom Wike has released fund for the payment of the 2020/2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) and the 2020 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination(WASSCE).
The State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku made the disclosure while briefing journalists in the state.
“I’m pleased to announce to the people of the state that the Governor has graciously released fund for the redemption of his pledge to pay for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidates of Rivers State origin and for all candidates intending to sit for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the public schools in Rivers State.”
He said that Governor Wike had also directed that candidates who had already paid for the examination be refunded theiir monies. He said: “The Governor has directed that for candidates that have already paid for these examinations they should receive refund and details of this will be made public shortly and for candidates that are yet to pay, will be announcing modalities for the registration today (Feb 12, 2020).
Kaniye further stressed that the Ministry shall make public modalities for the registration of the examination by candidates who are yet to register for the JAMB examination.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Governor Wike announced that the state government will bankroll the payment of JAMB examination for all eligible Rivers students and the payment of WAEC for all public school students regardless of their state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
