RSG Launches Blueprint For Youth Dev
The Rivers State Government says, it is on the verge of discussing with some multinational companies in the state with the view to developing road map for youth development in the state.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Princewill Ogbubula, said this during an interactive session with representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCON), Rivers State council in Port Harcourt.
Ogbubula also condemned the recent cult clashes in Ahoada East and Ahoada West, which allegedly left over 40 persons dead.
He said that the vision of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration was to ensure that Rivers youth realise their full potentials as future leaders of the state, but added that this can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.
The commissioner also urged the leadership of the youth council to appeal to the youth across the state to lay down their arms and join the development train of the government.
According to him, Rivers youth must be seen to be initiators of ideals that will advance the development of the state, and stressed the need for them to toe the path of peace and development in the state.
He also assured the youth of government’s commitment to include them in some programmes such as pilgrimage to Israel and on-going agricultural loan schemes.
Also speaking, the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo called for the inclusion of their members in the annual pilgrimage to Israel and Mecca.
Sukubo also decried the non-inclusion of members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in most of government’s activities.
He also called for the revival of neighbourhood watch to check the rising tide of criminalities in the state, and assured of the support of the youth to all government’s policies and programmes.
Earlier, the Director Enterprise Development, Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Festus Ugwuzuo, said that the National Youth Council of Nigeria will remain the apex youth body only recognised by law and urged all youth groups in the state to affiliate with it.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
