Group Wants Establishment Of NTC
President of the National
Association of Nigerian College of Education Students (NANCES), Mr Adediwura Adesina, has called on the Federal Government to establish a National Teachers Corps (NTC).
This, he said, is in fulfilment of the proposal of the former minister for education, Professor Chinwe Obaji.
A statement made available to The Tide quotes the NANCES boss as saying that, “we now call on the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) not to relent on their action in making a good policy that will improve the lot of teachers in Nigeria”.
The statement continued that “we are using this medium to remind NCCE about the proposed NTC policy suggested by professor Chinwe Obaji, former minister of Education in 2005.
Mr Adesina explained that the creation will give the National College of Education (NCE) students the opportunity to participate in the National Youth Service Corps programme and provide solution to thje problem of lack of teachers in rural areas in Nigeria.
“We urge NCCE to agree with us that there is no better students that is supposed to go for the NYSC progreamme than NCE students.
“This is because making NCE graduates to serve on the platform of the NTC is the only solution to all educational problems in Nigeria”, he said.
