Rivers APC Agent Accuses REC Of Bias
The All Progressives Con
gress agent in Rivers State, Mr Achinike Willians Wobodo has accused the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dame Gesila Khan of being bias in the conduct of the Presidential, Senate and House of Representative elections in Rivers State.
W obodo who spoke to newsmen at the office of the Independent Electoral Commission pointed out that interview granted press by the Resident Commissioner was one sided.
According to him” after she had finished speaking, she refused to entertained questions and worked away.
“We have cornplains from ikwerre local government Area that no single result sheet was seen in the local government area, no response has been made to that complaints. We asked her where the results sheets went to after they left this place on Thursday as she stated while briefing journalists, we are yet to get answeres. In ObiolAkpor ward 9, we learnt they force people to cluster in a particular unit to vote, this is a ward with 15 units, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner is not discussing about that.
“What we are talking about is free and fair election, the elections should not be seen to be credible, but have to be credible and fair, meaning that all the parties must be given equal opportunities. One of the issue she talked about is about incident forms, I am agent attached to this office, by 11am Saturday, incident forms were being smuggled out of this place and I raised alarm about it but nobody seemed to listen to me.”
He also claimed that in Akuku-Turu Local Government Area, the police were demobilized and sent to the house of the Minister for Sports for special briefing, is that the fairness?
Wobodo went on to say that in Obio/Akpor ward 16, most of the materials were snatched and taken to the house of one Micheal Chinda, adding that in Okrika the materials for three wards were snatched and taken to the house of Biba Walter.
However, at the middle of the election, at about 15:00 hours, the Electoral Commissioner Dame Gesila Khan approved the use of manual registers for accreditation where the card readers failed.
The statement signed by her also directed the general public to go back to their polling units to be accredited with their permanent voter’s cards if they had been accredited.
