FG Restates Commitment To Power Sector Privatisation
The Federal Government said yesterday that there was no going back on the decision to privatise the power sector.
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said this in a statement by Deputy Director/Head of Press of the ministry, Timothy Oyedeji, in Abuja.
The minister stated this when USAID delegation paid him a courtesy visit.
The statement said there was no going back on contents and details of the approved road map.
It expressed appreciation of the work done by USAID, especially in the area of capacity building.
It added that the ministry needed more help to strengthen institutions and plans implementation.
The statement said that some gaps had been identified by the government while approval had been given to include them in the second road map.
It called for more investments from genuine investors to come and take advantage of the revolution that was about to happen in the sector.
The statement said the minister likened the development that would happen in the sector to that of telecommunications.
It stated that the Federal Government had empowered the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader with 1 billion, which was approved in form of bond, to enable it buy electricity from the generating companies.
The statement said the inauguration of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) showed Mr. President’s commitment in resolving Manitoba issues.
It appealed to USAID to assist Nigeria in the renewable energy mix, to give the country what it required in short run, especially in the rural areas,
It stated that the leader of USAID team, Mr Dana Mansuri, promised to support the privatisation efforts of government.
The statement quoted the leader of USAID as saying that going by what the group saw on ground, the Nigeria power sector was innovative and creative.
The delegation urged the government to adhere to the plans and assured the ministry of its support in capacity building, especially in rural electrification efforts.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
