Motorists Caution On Reconstruction Of Flyover
Motorists have cautioned the contractor handling the reconstruction work on the collapsed Port Harcourt, Aba Road to apply caution and adopt best practices in the execution of the contract to avert any technical breach on the job.
The project is being handled by one of the foremost road construction companies in the country, Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Nig Ltd.
Our correspondent, who was at the site of the project on Monday reported that excavation work is on-going to re-enforce the fly-over bridge, while the bye-pass by Air Assault Golf Club, Bori Camp to the Port Harcourt – Aba Road is in progress.
In a chat with The Tide an engineer of the company, Mr Gabriel Ediela said that the project would include construction of a new wall from the base that would stand the test of time.
Mr Ediela stated that RCC, known for its quality job execution in Nigeria, assured that they would carry out the project according to specification.
He disclosed that the project is expected to be completed early next year, with other factors in consideration.
It would be recalled that a section of the G.U. Ake / Airport Road flyover bridge on the Port Harcourt – Aba Road Express Way collapsed on Sunday, September 16, 2012 following a torrential rainfall, thereby causing a traffic grid lock.
The collapsed wall of the flyover bridge was constructed by Bulletine Construction Company Limited and completed under the previous government in the state.
Efforts by our correspondent to get comments from the Commissioner for Works, Rivers State, Mr Victor Giadom proved abortive as he was said to be out of the state for an official assignment.
Motorists plying the G.U. Ake road to Airforce by Port Harcourt – Aba Expressway are beginning to heave a sigh of relief that the traffic gridlocks being experienced since the collapse of the fly over would be a thing of the past and thanked the Rivers State government for their prompt action.
They however, said government should ensure that the contractor carry out a thorough job on the project to avoid any re-occurrence in the near future.
