Expose Criminals, Group Tells Egi Communities
The President-General of Egi
Peoples Assembly, Chief Oris Onyiri wants all criminal elements in Egi
communities in Ogba/Egnema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State to be
exposed and handed over to security agents for further action.
Chief Onyiri said anyone found
hiding a criminal in his compound or in the community without exposing such
person would face the wrath of the law.
Speaking at the grand finale of
the Presidential Town Hall meeting of Egi Peoples Assembly at Ogbogu last
weekend, Chief Onyiri reiterated his call for peaceful co-existence among the
people of Egi kingdom.
Chief Onyiri assured the people of
Egi of the organisation’s commitment to making the Egi Clan a model through the
establishment of factories and bringing development to the door steps of the
people.
He said the area is blessed with
numerous natural resources such as ceramic, glass, palm oil and cassava which
can be explored to improve the economy.
According to him, the Egi Peoples
Assembly plans to set up a bakery and confectionary industry, Egi Community
Radio, early childhood education centres, a gas company, youth development
centre, parks and recreational centre and Egi Chamber of Commerce.
Chief Onyiri, a former Secretary
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State advised contactors
handling projects in the area to ensure quality jobs and warned the people to
resist the temptation of embezzling funds meant for the development of the
communities.
A release signed by the publicity
secretary of the organisation, Mr. Vincent Ake said the confab was climaxed
with the recognition and presentation of materials and cash gifts to the oldest
man in the kingdom, Elder Aaron Nwokidu and the oldest woman, Mrs Rebecca
Isirimah.
Five Hyundai Sante Fe, silver
coloured jeep cars were also presented to the four zonal traditional rulers and
the chairman of Egi Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers.
