Delta Trains New Engineers
A commissioner in the
Delta State Directorate of Transport, Mr Benson Igbakpa, has said that newly recruited engineers and technical officers in the directorate will undergo a two-year mandatory training.
Igbakpa announced the plan in Asaba last Thursday while inaugurating an orientation programme for the new recruits.
Igbakpa saidthat the orientation and pupilage were to fully orientate the new members of staff on the functions of the directorate.
He explained that the functions of the directorate included formulation, regulation and implementation of government policies in the transport sector.
He said the directorate was saddled with providing safe, effective, efficient and integrated transport operations and infrastructure that would best meet the needs of passengers and freight services.
He said the directorate was the pool for mechanical engineers in the state civil service and that there was a need for them to be abreast of modern mechanical and technological ideas.
The commissioner urged the new recruits to be hard working and dedicated to their duties as the only way to attain greater heights in the service.
Mr Sunday Okpako, the Permanent Secretary in the directorate, urged the engineers and technical officers to take the orientation programme serious as it would lead to their development in the service.
He urged them to be prepared at all times and warned that anyone found wanting in any way would be dealt with professionally.
