The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), plans to set up solar maintenance shops in different parts of Niger Delta region.
The Acting Managing Director of the commission, Mrs Osato Arenyeka, said at a solar training pragramme for Niger Delta youths last Friday in Port Harcourt that the project was a deliberate effort to launch the region into the world of renewable energy technology.
He described renewable energy industry as lucrative, saying that it had the capability of creating thousands of jobs.
“After a thorough review of the numerous solar power projects undertaken by the commission, especially the solar power bore holes and solar power street lights, it became imperative to provide training on repair and maintenance.

Arenyeka promised that the NDDC would remain focused and determined in delivering its mandate to all the communities in the region.
“We are resolved to work. We are a driving force in the development of Niger Delta.”
