Rivers Elders Hail Amaechi Over Songhai Farm
Prominent elder statesmen in Rivers State have described the Songhai farm established by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in Bunu Tai of Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, as a concrete effort towards realising a stable economy for the state. The elders stated this shortly after an inspection tour of the farm recently.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, former Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Gabriel Toby said the farm would go a long way towards eradicating poverty among the youths.
According to him “The farm which is bigger than what is tenable in Benin Republic is a worthy investment that would create employment, food and security.” It is a good foresight and we urge the governor to maintain the tempo in his effort to further restore the dignity of the Rivers man”, he declared.
In his view, Dr Dominic Anucha who was also a former deputy Governor in old Rivers State, described the farm as a gigantic industry which would yield positive results. He said, “the farm will attract a lot of industries. In no distant time the people will begin to feel the impact of the farm”.
Anucha also described Governor Amaechi as a performer considering his laudable achievements particularly in education. He said, the model secondary school at Ebubu Eleme was a clear manifestation that governor Amaechi meant well for Rivers people.
“We saw a beautiful model secondary school, we hear that a good percentage of teachers will come from India so that our children will meet international standard. We have never seen a secondary school as big as a university even in our own time. So, for the governor to have this vision to do what he is doing in the state, is commendable”, he explained.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
