Anambra Guber Race INEC Raises Monitoring, Supervision Team
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has set up an election monitoring and supervision board for the 2010 Anambra Governorship election.
The 10 member board is made up of entirely independent Nigerians from various walks of life.
Chairman of INEC, Prof Maurice Iwu said the commission has in the last four years instituted various reforms to change the electoral process, but some political interest groups have been doing all they can to undermine all efforts to change the system.
Prof. Iwu said the Anambra State advance initiative election provides an opportunity to transparent process.
The commission noted that it has decided to establish such a board in view of the experience of the recent past and the apparent wilful destruction of the best intention and other actions of the commission by the groups.
The commission’s term of reference include to monitor the preparations, organisations and conduct of the Anambra Gubernatorial election in February, 2010.
To consider and point out any factor that may affect the conduct and credibility of the electoral process, to determine if the result of the election reflects the wishes of the people, and to submit each reports to the chairman of the commission at the end of the election and publish same for public consumption, Prof. Iwu added.
The chairman of the board who is also the first Vice National president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ikeazor Akariwe said the members of the board are determined to ensure success of the affairs and conduct of the election.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
