Board To Sponsor 60 Teachers On Bullying Capacity Training
Towards providing a peaceful learning environment and to stop recurring cases of bullying across schools in the state ,the Rivers State Basic Education board (RSUBEB )has approved the sponsorship of 60 teachers for capacity workshop in the state .
The 60 teachers are to be selected from among 10 schools in the state with a view to equipping them with the relevant knowledge to deal with the challenges of bullying in schools
The executive chairman of the Board,Ven Ndubuisi Akah disclosed this when members of Association of Professional Councillors in Nigeria (APROCON), Rivers state chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt ,Friday .
Akah who emphasized on the importance of training and retraining for human capacity development ,said his administration would collaborate and partner with various critical stakeholders in the development of education in the state .
He used the forum to commend the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his unrelenting funding of the basic education system in the state ,adding that the huge state investment in the sector has brought a remarkable achievements in the provision of infrastructure and development of education in the state .
He lauded the association for the visit and assured them of the board’s readiness to partner with the association to enhance the capacity of her man power development across the schools in the state .
Earlier ,the leader of the team, Prof Udochi Ekeh, said they were at the board to seek collaboration/partnership to organise a workshop on bullying and appeal to the board to sponsor their teachers ,adding that the benefits of the workshop would be enormous as it is aimed at eradicating the menance of bullying in schools.
She averred that the overall aim of the workshop scheduled to hold by May 24 at International Secondary School, RSU with the theme “eradicating of bullying in our schools:a must “is designed to expose participants to the meaning and dangers /consequences of bullying ,to identify the intervention strategies of stakeholders (including teachers ,counsellors ,students) towards ensuring that bullying is eradicated or minimised in schools ,as well as to formulate a template for participants to organise step down workshops in their respective schools based on the theme of the workshop.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt.
