Taking SSANU To Glorious Height, My Vision – Chairman
Newly elected Chairman of
the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Rivers State University of Science and technology (RSUST), branch, Comrade Azumah Cheta Ugochukwukwu, has stated that the focus of his executive would be to ensure that the organisation attain its lost glory.
Beyond this, he said members of SSANU under his leadership will benefit in all their dues in the university community.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, the RSUST SSANU boss, a former Secretary of the body, stated that part of the process of lifting the association to its past exhalted position is to ensure the welfare of its members.
“SSANU should be what it is, a welfare thing. Staff of a university or an organisation should join the union so that things they could not do for themselves, under the plat form of a union, they can get.
“So, it is the interest of the workers that must come first, to ensure that we protect their interest and ensure, for instance, that no obnoxious rule is metted against them”, he said.
In order to achieve this, he explained, SSANU, under his leadership, will seek to ensure that the 2009 agreement between the Association and Federal Government is implemented.
“We have backlog of (salary) arrears not being paid, we also have some discrepancies in our promotion guideline, four years for executive cadre, and three years for administrative cadre, etc”.
The reason, he explained further, for this discrepancy has not been justified because it has not been explained.
Other members of the new executive of SSANU, RSUST Branch are; Comrade Nuku L. Wilcox (Vice Chairman); Comrade Ene Aaron Osorochi (Secretary); Comrade Zagah Friday Joe (Treasurer); and Comrade Gospel Ajuwo (Assistant Secretary).
Others are Comrades Paamia C. Lekia (Financial Secretary), Jack Pedro (PRO), Godpower J. Atende (Trustee), Salome, Orlu (Women Leader), and Isaac N. Munonye (Ex-officio).
