Uniport Medical Students To Hold Symposium On Basic Accidents

Medical Students Association (PUMSA), has concluded plans to hold a symposium on basic accidents, forebiles and allergies for the benefit of members of the University Community.
The PUMSA Academic Chairman, Achonye Martin Tochukwu who stated that this is an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said the symposium is scheduled for December 2, at the Ebitimi Banigo Hall, at the University of Port Harcourt.
According to him, the symposium is meant to educate students and staff of the University of Port Harcourt on basic accidents emergencies (traffic accidents), forebites (dogbites and snakebites), allergies, fractures, mass causalities etc.
He added that the symposium would also include a demonstrative session so that the participants could learn and practice skills and techniques such as basic life support (BIS) Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Heimlich’s maneuver, cardiac massage among others.
Mr Achonye further hinted that consultants in the fields of Anesthesiology, Cardio thoracic Surgery, Dermatology, orthopedics, burns and plastic would speak at the event, adding that other diomitaries such as the Rivers State commissioner for Health, Dr Samson Parker would be in attendance.
PUMSA Academic Chairman who described the Programme as the first of its kind in the history of the University of Port Harcourt said it is entitled.
“In case of in Emergency: Basic Skills can save a life,” and jointly organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Under the aegis of the International Red Cross movement, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Rivers State Emergency Medical Service (EMS), the Fire Service of Uniport and the Rivers State Ministry of Health.
