Nigerian, Ghanaian Actors Partner On Ghana’s 57th Anniversary …As Magid Michel Denies Existence Of GollyWood

The Tide Entertainment has it that arrangements have been concluded between a delegation of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Ghanaian Actors Guild (GAG) to partner in a number of engagements to commemorate Ghana’s 57th independent anniversary.
According to the report, the 35 member Nigerian delegation is expected to arrive Accra on March 2 and will spend a week absorbing some of Ghana’s interesting sites and sounds, while participating in a number of activities lined up for the visit.
The president of Ghana’s Actors Guild (GAG), Sammuel Odoi Mensah said members of the Guild would engage in a two day workshop on March 3 and 4. In the morning of March 5, there would be floats of students from second cycle schools in Accra, followed by choral music, poetry recital and sketches by the students.
According to him, a re-enactment of Ghana’s independence struggle by actors from both countries will be staged on the evening of March 5th at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Other events include, a football match by both sides at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, March 6th, dinner and awards night will be held at the Banquet Hall, Accra on March 8th.
A delegation of Ghanaian actors and actresses are expected to pay a reciprocal visit to Nigeria in May this year.
It would be recalled that collaboration between the Ghanaian and Nigerian movie industry has existed for long as several films have been made as a result of the cooperation of the actors and actresses from both sides frequently crossing borders to work in a variety of productions.
Meanwhile, top Ghanaian actor, Magid Michel, has declared that there is nothing like Gollywood except Nollywood in Africa. He made the comment on HITZ, a programme on ONTV, an entertainment channel which operates under Sound City TV in Nigeria.
Reports have it that the Ghanaian actor known for his loverboy roles declared on the said programme that “there is nothing like Gollywood as some Ghanaians have claimed, but there is only Nollywood in Africa and that it was Nigeria that came up with the whole idea and made it a reality for others to follow.
