Group Wants Senator To Donate ICT Gadgets
The Association of Rivers
East Senatorial District Journalists (ARESDJs) has pushed for a donation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materials to position themselves better in ICT development.
The group bared their mind on ICT items last Saturday when they paid a courtesy visit to the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial zone, Senator George T. Sekibo in Port Harcourt.
The group’s chairman, Mr Wariso Wariso, in his address, asked the Senator to provide them with Lap tops, ipads and other ICT items that could propel them to higher heights.
He regretted that journalists from the zone are yet to have such items, saying that with Senator Sekibo, their prayers could be answered.
Wariso also asked the Senator to make available training opportunities that could enable them rank with international journalists.
According to him, reporters without ICT knowledge at present may not compete favourably nowadays, considering the speedy ICT growth.
Furthermore, he called on journalists from the zone to see it as a task and acquaint themselves with the latest ICT skill/knowledge.
Others, also pleaded with Senator Sekibo to build a central ICT centre for the zone to serve as both internet and library centre.
They recalled the Senator’s contribution to the ICT development of the zone, adding that such centre will help to sustain his gesture.
However, Senator Sekibo has promised to get back to them after due consultation about their request.
