FRSC Prosecutes 10 Transport Firms Over Safety Scheme
The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC on Thursday in Benin arraigned 10 transport companies at an Oredo Magistrates’ court for allegedly failing to comply with the requirements of Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS).
The fleet operators are Muyi Line, Agbonifo Line, Cystal Line, Oghogho Express and Afemai Line.
The others are Rod Motors, Genesis Motors, Comfort Line, Osa’s Motors and Unity Motors.
The prosecution alleged that the operators failed to comply with the seven days notice given before the beginning of legal action served on them by the FRSC on March 12.
However, Mr Saliu Umoru, the Branch Manager, Afemai Motors Benin; Mr Henry Isibor, the General Manager of Genesis, and Mr Akahomen Kevin, the counsel to eight other transport operators, pleaded not liable.
In their defence, the transport operators’ representatives told the court that they were not served any notice until Wednesday, summoning them to court.
The Magistrate, Mr Nosa Igbenosa, however, directed the process server to further serve the defendants and adjourned further hearing to July 3. for further hearing.
