Commissioner Orders Removal Of Illegal Structures
Owners of shanties and other illegal structures along Nnewi Street Rumuomasi and Boundary Roundabout road Rumukwurusi have been given 72 hours to remove them or face prosecution.
The commissioner for Environment, Dr Nyema Weli who issued the directive while monitoring this months environmental sanitation exercise in the affected areas also directed those involve in Aluminium Fabrication in Nnewi street to relocate them immediately.
The commissioner who was represented by Dr Ugochukwu Nmegbu a Director in the ministry said that the government is leaving no stone unturned to ride Port Harcourt of illegal structures.
He, however, commended the large turnout of the people for the sanitation exercise stressing that it shows that people are beginning to understand the importance of cleanliness.
Also speaking the state Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr Oliver Wolugbom also commended the level of improvement by the people for the exercise this time around.
Mr Wolugbom said that it sanitation exercise must not be seen as a monthly exercise noting that should be done everyday.
He further said that the Agency is embarking on sensitisation round the various Local Government Areas on the importance of a clean environment.
Also speaking, the Finance Director Rivers State Ministry of Environment, Dr Cletus Amah said that the level of impunity among residence of Nnewi street Rumuomasi must be condemned.
According to him, it is important to discourage impunity as far as sanitation exercises are concerned.
