Delta Employs 18,000 Youths In FourYears
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has disclosed that his administration employed over 18,000 youths from 2007 to 2011 and promised to create more job opportunities for the youths.
Dr. Uduaghan who disclosed this at an interactive session with youths from across the State at Asaba said his administration gave jobs to the youths through the Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission, Post Primary Education Board, DESOP ADEC among other outlets.
He said he was seriously concerned about youth’s employment and promised to reactivate Bendel Glass Factory, Asaba Textile Mill, and solidify the establishment of a Fertiliser industry in the State without delay.
The governor who regretted about the large army of unemployed youths in the State said his immediate concern was how to stabilise electricity supply in the State so that youths would not rely only on white collar jobs.
His words “I want to stabilise power supply in the State so that sole proprietorship and small scale industries can thrive. We can encourage growth and employment through Micro-Credit so that those who have special skills can establish something and be on their own.”
Dr Uduaghan invited the private sector to partner with his administration in the creation of job opportunities for the youths, and promised to encourage companies to expand in the State so that there would be increase in employment. He said “we are laying concrete infrastructure to encourage growth. I believe we are doing something that will attract investors and once companies start springing up, the jobs will be there.”
The Governor however charged youths to shun violence and abstain completely from crime.
Dr Uduaghan explained that crime was destructive and warned them against carrying arms and not to allow themselves to be used.
Warning them that the habit of carrying gun was ugly and bad he explained further. “You can languish in jail if you are caught. People will just use and dump you so channel your energy to meaningful ventures instead of carrying gun.”
The Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe in his brief remarks promised to work together with Delta State Government to create job opportunities for youths in the State.
