Rotary Plans Sanitation, Potable Water In PH
The new President of Ro
tary Club of Port Harcourt, District 9140, Sir Dan Harrison said sanitation and provision of potable water will be part of the club’s focal programmes for the 2016/2017 Rotary year in Rivers State.
Harrison made this known in his address at the inauguration of the new executives of the club held in Port Harcourt recently.
According to him, the club will during the period provide toilet facilities to girls’ secondary schools in Port Harcourt, saying that the projects earmarked would positively create an impact to the communities, stressing that the selfless services being rendered to humanity will put smiles on their faces as they could not afford clean water, education and sanitation.
The new Rotary President disclosed that Polio immunization would also be given special attention even though Nigeria is Polio free in order to avoid resurgent of the virus while more awareness would be created on health projects with provision of incubators to Braithwaite Memorial Special Hospital (BMSH).
He also hinted that the club would distribute fishing nets to fishing communities strengthen the existing micro-credit scheme, make deliberate effort towards peace by reaching out to conflict areas and holding peace talk, organise quiz competition among secondary schools in Port Harcourt as well as provide bursary to the physically challenged.
Harrison further stated that computer education and adult literacy would be carried out, and as a club that has passion for young people, they are to closely work with Rotaractors and interactors and also continue with the development of the Rotary Centre as well as assess and complete projects inherited from his predecessor.
The president solicited for all hands to be on deck to achieve set goals, adding, “lets reach out now to serve humanity,” and thanked all.
Other executives include Lucky Akhiwu- vice president, Ferdinald Banigo – president elect, Ughochukwu Oputa Secretary. Henry Domo-Spiff-Sergeant-At-Arms, Adeolu Okanlanwo-Treasurer, Ifeoma Nwakuche-Club Admin Director and Chinyere Nwoga-Rotary Foundation Director.
Also in the cabinet were Leo Ohagba-PRO, Alli Oraitemeka-Vocational Service Director, Obiageli Ejezie-youth service Director and James Okwuobu-membership Director.
