Rivers Community Demands Chieftaincy Recognition
The Chiefs and Elders of Umueze Ovu Igwe Community, Uvuahu kingdom in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers state have called for the recognition of the community’s Chieftaincy stool by the Rivers State Government.
They also urged the government to invest in the development of agriculture in the community.
The people said this at the Conferment of Chieftaincy titles on some distinguished personalities from various parts of the state.
Paramount ruler of the community Oha Emmanuel Amakiri Nsirim described Umueze Ovu Igwe Uvuahu kingdom Community as one of the most ancient communities in Rivers state.
He said the Kingdom deserve Government recognition of its stool in view of the population of the area and its stool which is one of the most ancient in the state.
Oha Nsirim said those conferred with the Chieftaincy titles have distinguished themselves not only on the service of the community but have also done various things towards the upliftment of humanities.
According to the traditional ruler, some of those honoured were responsible for the education of some sons and daughters of Uvuahu Kingdom and charged them not to relent in their efforts towards supporting the people of Uvuahu Kingdom and others in the state.
Also speaking the Secretary-General of Umueze Ovu Igwe Community, Uvuahu Kingdom, Mr Nsirim Okwudiri David, said the community also needs social amenities such as, health centres , schools, pipe borne water and solar water panel, market and others.
He said the community on its own started the construction of a town hall but is yet to roof it because of the cost involved and called for support.
David said the people also need employment and skills training while Government should also take up mechanised agriculture to create employment opportunities for the people.
He said the ceremony will mark a turning point as far as the community relationship with the external world is concerned, adding that it would create a relationship that will last for generations to come.
“Today is not just about the event itself but also the opportunity it presents for us to confer Chieftaincy titles.
“It is a medium of creating an undisputed relationship. However, this conferment will last for generations,” he said.
Some of the awardees thanked the community for the recognition, promising not to disappoint them.
The awardees include, HRH Eze Edison Omeodu,Chief Livinus and Mrs Glory Agbovu , Boniface Ogele, amongst others.
